Europe: foreign rivals see advantages

Analysts say that the US government's attempt to break up software giant Microsoft Corp could impel European software businesses to adopt measures towards innovation. They also say that Microsoft's split could waken its leadership and create an opening for foreign rivals to move into the market. However, experts say that Microsoft's dominance in Europe has already been weakening as wireless communication grows and digital television inexorably moves mainstream.

Chinese beer barrels up to the world's bar

Tsingtao Brewery of China is not afraid of competition with the country's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO). The company has had years of experience competing with foreign brands and has emerged stronger and more competitive. The company even welcomes the new wave of competition that will result from the WTO membership as a way for it to invade foreign markets and buy cheaper raw materials from abroad.

Ford announcement adds to fears for Britain's car industry

Article Abstract:

Ford Motor Co's announcement that it is closing its plant near London has raised concerns over the future of the UK's auto industry. The closure will affect 2,000 people. On a positive note, Ford said it will focus on diesel engine production in the UK. The automaker said it will invest $3 billion in its UK facilities and create another 500 jobs at its diesel engine plant.
