Exxon spill marked as B.C. examines new drilling plan

Article Abstract:

British Columbia's government is planning to lift a ban on oil and gas exploration off the Queen Charlotte Islands. The area is believed to contain up to 10 times the amount of oil and gas reserves as the Hibernia project off Newfoundland. The province has been seeking ways to finance its C$400-million deficit and for an alternative income source to offset its lagging forest and fisheries industries.

Calgary firm helps Sudan exploit its oil

Article Abstract:

Talisman Energy Inc is aiding Sudan in developing its oil reserves for the first time. The oil project in the Heglig area of central Sudan, 700 kilometers southwest of Khartoum, is expected to begin pumping 150,000 barrels per day of oil soon. The Calgary, Canada-based oil producer owns a 25% stake in the oil project, while 60% of the revenue will go to the Sudanese government.

B.C. to offer stock option tax break

Article Abstract:

The provincial government of British Columbia, Canada, has announced a tax break on stock options controlled by high-tech workers. The move is aimed at putting to an end the migration of highly skiled techology workers to the United States. British Columbia is reported to be the second province in the country, after Ontario, to have effected the new tax credit law.
