Merger can expect tough regulatory look

Article Abstract:

Time Warner Inc and EMI Group Ltd of the UK, which have announced the merger of their music businesses, are expected to face a difficult path towards regulatory acceptance. This is because the impending deal, which will result in a company with almost a fourth of the world's music sales, will reduce the number of major music companies in the world to only four. The merger is expected to be diligently reviewed by both the European Commission and the Federal Trade Commission.

FTC nears deal on AOL-Time Warner merger

Article Abstract:

America Online (AOL)'s merger with Time Warner is nearing its completion as the Federal Trade Commission's staff is poised to approve the blockbuster merger. The agency and the companies are close to a deal that would allow AOL-Time Warner share in ISP's advertising and e-commerce revenue; prevent AOL from offering high-speed internet access over time Warner lines until one competitor is also providing it in each Time Warner market; and oblige the company to provide for third-party arbitrators to mediate disputes between it and other ISPs.
