Facing a long, cold winter

Article Abstract:

The United States and the Northern Alliance are fighting a messy war against the Taliban in Afghanistan, and impatience from policymakers in Washington is evident by how frequently strategies within the 'Northern Strategy' are being changed. Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf believes U.S. bombings began before adequate preparation for a post-Taliban Afghanistan could be made.

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has tightened security at nuclear facilities in an effort to protect the country's nuclear materials and weapons from Osama bin Laden and Taliban sympathizers. United States Marines may or may not be sent in to aid in the safeguarding, despite possible resistance from Pakistan's armed forces.

A war in the dark

The inability of the U.S. intelligence to decide whether it is fighting a ragtag resistance or a well-organized insurgency in Iraq is discussed. Its success level due to these difficulties is examined.
