Fixing urban schools: The 'behavior gap' between black and white students: Many educators blame a system that's middle-class and white-centered

Article Abstract:

Analysts say the "behavior gap" between African-American and white students is a result of a cultural clash between the mostly poor African-Americans and the white-centered, middle-class-oriented education system. In most urban schools, African-American male students have the highest rates of disciplinary infractions and suspensions, mainly due to a lack of appropriate communication behaviors at home, which ultimately reflects on the academic achievement gap.
