Flames of intolerance: religious violence ravages a nation

Article Abstract:

India was ravaged by religious violence that claimed over 1,000 lives when Hindu extremists razed a Muslim mosque at Ayodhya. Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao ordered the arrest of several Hindu fundamentalists, including Indian People's Party leader Lal Krishan Advani, for inciting the violence.

Europe's powder keg: ethnic hatreds tear Yugoslavia apart

Article Abstract:

In Mar 1992, gunfire broke out in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina, between muslims and ethnic Croatians who support the region's independence, and ethnic Serbs who oppose separation. The fighting furthered the area's reputation as a center of violence in Europe.

The Canadian forces in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, led by Lewis MacKenzie will relocate to Croatia in Aug 1992. MacKenzie describes the extreme conditions and situations he has endured in his four and a half month-long service in Sarajevo.
