Ford chief wants to speed tire recall

Article Abstract:

Ford Motor Co CEO Jacques Nasser, on Aug 16 2000, stated that he will consider a number of steps to hasten the replacement of recalled Bridgestone/Firestone Inc's tires on millions of Ford trucks, particularly Explorer sport-utility vehicles. These will include paying for rental cars, using tires intended for new Fords as replacements and increasing the number of retailers authorized to exchange tires beyond Ford and Firestone dealers. According to Ford and Firestone, the recall might last until spring owing to shortage of tires.
