Information brokers put on brakes

Article Abstract:

The information brokerage industry and its customers have decided to restrict the kinds of information they sell because of reports that up to 1,000 identities of people are stolen everyday. Privacy advocates, legislators and the Federal Trade Commission have reprimanded credit bureaus and information brokers because their sales of personal information could violate the right to privacy. Identity thieves steal bank and financial accounts by using Social Security numbers, dates of birth and addresses.
