From squatter to hard yakka

Article Abstract:

Wealthy residents in the Western District of Victoria, Australia, are descendants of original settler families. Their mansions are testament to the area's history of wealth, power, and influence. Although mansions are well kept, the power and influence of today's generations have diminished. Most of them work harder than their parents did and they argue that these mansions symbolize a period that is long gone.

Beyond Sparta

Article Abstract:

The ancient Byzantine cities of Mistra, Mani and Monemvassia in Greece offer unusual opportunities to explore history. Mistra was built in 1249 and retained its independence a few years after the fall of Constantinople in 1453. Monemvassia, on the southeast coast, was a major commercial center for French, Venetian and Turkish traders. Mani maintained its independence from Greece for centuries until 1834.
