Fund sales dive in January as investors remain nervous

Article Abstract:

Sales of mutual funds declined significantly to an estimated C$1.8 billion to C$2 billion in Jan 1999, from C$3.1 billion in Jan 1998. The estimated sales are also flat or slight lower than the C$2.2 billion in net sales posted in Dec 1998. The lower sales are attributed to the preference of investors to buy during December and to higher-than-usual redemptions in January.
