Pope John Paul's last years were marked by morally degraded revelations of sexual abuse of children and young people in United States, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Britain, Germany, France, Mexico and Poland. The most astonishing news came when reporters of The Boston Globe found out that the city's archdiocese had repeatedly shielded sexually abusive priests from law enforcement, after which Pope John Paul passes a policy to permanently bar sex-offender priests from ministering to believers.
