GM hopes drivers develop Hummer state of mind

Article Abstract:

General Motors Corp will unveil the Hummer H2 sport-utility truck in Apr 2001. The company's goal in 2002 is to figure out how to persuade 40,000 people annually to decide having the Huk Hogan of sport-utility vehicles in their driveways. If the H2, which is expected to cost $50,000, is successful, the business case can be made for an H3, a vehicle that would cost $35,000 or less and would be based on the same vehicle platform as the Chevy TrailBlazer and GMC Envoy midsize SUVs.

After tireless efforts, Ford launches all-new Explorer

Article Abstract:

Ford Motor Co has unveiled an all-new Explorer model for 2002, its rollout delayed by Firestone's tire recall fiasco. Company executives considered changing the Explorer's name when they conducted a planning meeting during fall 2000 for the vehicle's launch. However, the unthinkable did not happen, and Ford executives have devised a carefully-crafted marketing and public relations strategy that would convince US consumers that the 2002 Explorer is an all-new model.
