Article Abstract:

The global-warming issue has reached a point where it can no longer be ignored, with the economic implications of China's rapid industrialization being a major contributing factor to the sense of urgency. Pollution is 12 times the world average per unit of gross domestic product, reveals China's Environmental Protection Agency, and the health costs, mostly paid in terms of life quality and age expectancy, are huge and growing.

Australian politicians are wary of the globalisation of business and of Australian business being taken over by foreign companies. The other side to this is the much greater degree to which Australian firms have invested overseas.
