Green cathedrals: B.C. tourism enjoys a backcountry boom

The popularity of outdoor activities and adventure-related travel in British Columbia has increased debate over the use of wilderness lands with various industries. In 1991, wilderness tourists spent more than one-third of the total $5.5 billion generated by tourists.

Canadian downhill skier Kate Pace won the 1993 World Alpine Ski Championship in Morioka, Japan, and Olympic bronze medalist Myriam Bedard won the 15-km individual event and the 7.5-km race at the world biathlon competition in Borovets, Bulgaria.

Queens of the court: women's tennis enjoys a surge in popularity

Article Abstract:

Women's tennis is becoming almost as popular as men's tennis. Some tournaments, such as the Matinee Ltd International, attract higher ratings than men's competitions. However, women still do not win as much prize money as men tennis players.
