H&R Block Is Accused Of Fraud In Bond Sales

The National Association of Securities Dealers has accused H&R Block Financial Advisors of selling $16 million worth of Enron Corp. bonds without informing clients of the risks. Brokers were offered a higher than usual commission during the five-week period leading up to Enron's collapse.

2nd Quarter At Citigroup Disappoints Investors

Two of the largest banks in the United States reported poor earnings in the second quarter. Citigroup Inc.'s net income reached $5.07 billion, while Bank of America reported earnings of $4.3 billion.

HSBC to Pay $1.75 Billion For Stake in Chinese Bank

HSBC Holdings PLC has acquired 19.9 percent of China's Bank of Communications which had assets worth $111.9 billion in 2003. HSBC will now have greater access to the Chinese market.
