Has Dow finally hit bottom?

Article Abstract:

The Dow Jones industrials closed below the 10,000 level for the first time since Mar 2000 despite the fact that stocks stormed back from a panic- induced plunge. It plunged a harrowing 435 points to 9655, the lowest level that it has attained in one year, during the first 15 minutes of trading. The Nasdaq composite also got swept up in the downdraft by falling 188 points in early trading. It was panic selling although the panic ended quickly as investors gathered their wits and concluded that stocks were too cheap to ignore.

'Stealth' rally draws investors back into stocks

Article Abstract:

The entire stock market has been rallying since the middle of Dec 2000. Most noticeable is the tech-rich Nasdaq which rose 19 points on Jan 24, 2001, to 2859. The composite index is up 16% for 2001 and 25% since its Jan 2 low. The New York Stock Exchange is also experiencing a stealthlike bull market. Some signs of resurgence in the market are the fact that stocks are setting record highs; fewer techs are plunging to new lows and rising stocks outnumber those falling.
