Hewlett-Packard puts out the recycling box

Hewlett-Packard has announced a new program to help keep old computers out of landfills. The firm has recycled computers for over ten years and has its own recycling plant that processes four million pounds of equipment a month. A similar program will start in Europe on June 1, with a program in Canada to follow.

PC vintage: full-bodied, mellow price

It is a good time to purchase a personal computer right now due to two reasons. One is the obvious poor economic conditions in the United States as well as international financial difficulties and the second is due to product obsolescence. It is now possible to buy a full home computer for around $500.

All used up with someplace to go; at long last, computer recycling efforts are taking off, giving users yet another excuse to upgrade

The rapid pace of the obsolescence of computers has raised the issue of how to deal with the hundreds of millions of computers that will become obsolete between now and the year 2007. States and municipal governments have begun turning to computer-makers for help with recycling.
