Fred Mitchell, former CEO of Intercontinental Packers Ltd, filed a suit against other family members in Mar 1996, protesting his dismissal from the family-run business. Family matriarch Johanna Mitchell and siblings Chip and LuAn Mitchell insist that it is Fred Mitchell who is in the wrong.

The Toronto, Ontario City Council passed a law that bans smoking in restaurants and bars effective Jan 1, 1997, one of the most restrictive laws in North America. The hospitality industry and many smokers protested against the law, saying it will drive smokers to suburban establishments.

Article Abstract:

The results of a 1995 poll of Canadians reveals that 82% consider themselves somewhat or very spiritual. Evangelical Protestant and charismatic Catholicism denominations have seen the biggest increases. New age and eclectic religious beliefs are also gaining in popularity.
