How the computer became personal

Article Abstract:

The Linc, developed in 1961 by Wesley A. Clark at M.I.T.'s Lincoln Laboratory, is seen as the first forerunner of the personal computer, and was the inspiration for subsequent computers such as Ivan E. Sutherland's Sketchpad, Alan Kay's Dynabook, and the Altos, which were developed at Xerox with influence from Douglas Engelbart's research at S.R.I. In 1968, the term 'personal computer' made its first appearance in an ad for a Hewlett-Packard desktop calculator.
