How to map out the best place for rare species

Article Abstract:

Satellite and computer technology is helping the federal government preserve natural resources by providing satellite images of topography and vegetation and electronic data on land ownership. Government officials can more easily and quickly identify valuable land tracts and purchase them before they become targets of development. Most wildlife refuges were established to preserve magnificent landscape but the growing list of endangered species is making it crucial for government officials to determine what areas are critical habitats. Preserving habitats saves environmental dollars in the future by keeping species from becoming endangered.
