Australia's federal election is going to be the present Prime Minister John Howard's Waterloo, but in 2001 his role is uncertain. Timing will be important especially as Australia has linked itself with globalization and an economic downturn may occur.

An evaluation is presented of the progress of the Howard government in Australia. Up until the Christmas of 2000, the government appeared to be functioning without difficulty, however since this date, elements of discontent have arisen.
