Eaton's wins $4-million tax ruling

Article Abstract:

T Eaton Company Ltd has been awarded $4-mil in tax rulings by the Federal Court Appeal in relation to its decision to surrender its profit-sharing rights with Oshawa Mall. The company waived its right to receive 20% of the annual profit of Oshawa Shopping Center when the mall's owner, Campeau Corp, offered a lump-sum of $9.25 mil in 1985. T. Eaton has since fought the federal government over a tax assessment related with the Oshawa deal.
