Hostile offer made for Ranger

Calgary, Alb.-based Ranger Oil Ltd. has received a $945 million hostile takeover bid from smaller rival Calgary, Alb.-based Petrobank Energy and Resources Ltd. Petrobank, which is led by president and chief executive officer John Wright, is about one-tenth the size of Ranger Oil.

Hurricane and major shareholder trade barbs over offer to gain control

Article Abstract:

Calgary, Alberta-based Hurricane Hydrocarbons Ltd., which is an oil company, was surprised by a $189 takeover bid from Netherlands-based Central Asian Industrial Holdings NV. The deal, which would give Central Asian a 50% stake in Hurricane, may be an attempt to gain control of Hurricane's oil fields assets in Kazakhstan.
