Fashion designer Oscar De La Renta's biggest challenge in 1999 is to reinvent his business for the young. He divides his time between his clothing line in New York and a job as artistic director for the French couturier Pierre Balmain. He discusses couture buying habits and his career, which started when he got work as a sketcher for a Spanish designer, Balenciaga.

Article Abstract:

The star of TV show 'This Old House', had planned to be a reporter when he graduated from the University of Florida in 1965. After a stint in the Peace Corps, he enrolled in a Boston architecture school. He signed onto 'This Old House' in 1979 and left in 1989. Vila now produces a new show with Sears.
