Inflation continues six-month decrease: Dollar declines on rate cut speculation

Article Abstract:

Inflation pressure eased in August 2003 for the six month in the row as sharp declines in the price of beef and vegetables partly offset the rising cost of gasoline and auto insurance, lowering the annual increase in consumer prices to 2 per cent from 2.2 per cent in July 2003. The Canadian dollar fell by 0.56 cents due to the fears that Bank of Canada might reduce interest rates again.
