Innovative portables from Zenith

Article Abstract:

Zenith Data Systems announces several new portable computers including the $4,999 Masterport 386SL the $8,899 SuperSport 486 and the $7,499 SuperSport 486SX. The SuperSport 486 and the SuperSport 486SX are the first portable computers introduced that are based on the Intel Corp 80486 and 80486SX microprocessor respectively. The MasterPort 386SL is the first portable computer introduced that is based on the new Intel 80386SL microprocessor, which is known for its energy efficiency. Industry observers note that Zenith Data Systems, which was bought by Groupe Bull in 1990 from Zenith Electronics Corp, is trying to regain its dominance in the portable computer market with these new introductions.

Notable notebooks, now in vogue

Article Abstract:

Notebook computers are the hot items of the year according to analysts, and Tandy Corp and NEC Technologies Inc both introduce new notebook models. Tandy's $1,999 1500 HD is built around the NEC V-20 microprocessor which Tandy claims is as fast as the Intel 80C86 chip. The 1500 HD is the first notebook to include both a 20-Mbyte hard disk and a 1.44-Mbyte floppy disk drive for under $2,000. The NEC Ultralite 285V uses the Intel 80286 microprocessor and includes VGA graphics capabilities. The Ultralite is priced at $3,999, weighs 6.5-pounds and includes a removable floppy disk drive.
