For Microsoft's rivals, it's a question of fairness

Article Abstract:

Rival software companies' longstanding complaints that Microsoft Corp has used unfair trade practices to dominate the IBM PC-compatible microcomputer software industry are set to go before the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Jul 21, 1993. Such competitors as Novell Inc charge that Microsoft prices its dominant MS-DOS operating system in a way that forces users to buy other Microsoft applications, and that a warning message Microsoft included in the developers' version of the Windows 3.1 graphical user interface dissuaded them from running Windows on top of Novell's DR-DOS operating system. The FTC deadlocked 2-to-2 in a Feb vote on whether to proceed against Microsoft, and will likely deadlock again unless commissioner Mary L. Azcuenaga changes her vote.
