Internet brings European change

Sardini, Italy-based Tiscali has become one of Europe's most successful telecommunications and Internet services provider just after starting operations in Jun 1997. The company might break even by 2000 and hopes to turn a profit in 2001. Its success and the success of other Internet-based companies demonstrate how the Internet is transforming European financial markets and the entire European economy. Merrill Lynch analyst Peter Bradshaw noted that the momentum of the massive capital flow into the European Internet sector is tremendously positive and will favor many new online firms.

Many nations lag in e-commerce status

Article Abstract:

Consulting firm McConnell International reported that 42 developing economies are lacking in Internet commerce capabilities, a situation that could prevent the technology-led expansion of the world economy. The report was created with the cooperation of WITSA, a global group of 41 information technology associations. Each country was rated according to connectivity, e-leadership, information security, human capital and e- business climate.

Terra's IPO heralds boom

Internet-based telecommunications firm Terra Networks's unusually successful initial stock offering on the Madrid Stock Exchange suggests that other European Internet World Wide Web companies' share offers will do well in Europe. The firm provides a range of portals in Spanish and Portuguese. Its announcement that it would not turn a profit for three years di not deter the massive demand for its shares in the Spanish bourse.
