JDS Fitel shares soar on merger plan

Article Abstract:

JDS Fitel Inc, based in Nepean, Ontario, received strong investor support for its intended merger with Uniphase Corp of San Jose, CA, to culminate in an industry leader in the fiber-optics equipment business. The merger will create JDS Uniphase Corp to meet increasing demand from customers. The companies, which will have a market value of over C$10.6 billion, said that the consolidation is likely to be followed by more acquisitions in the future.

Nortel now third in fibre-optics

Article Abstract:

Nortel Networks dominance in fiber-optic equipment sales ends. The one time dominate leader with a 42 percent market share just a year ago has fallen to third place in volume of sales behind Lucent Technologies and Alcatel SA.
