U.S.: Lack of cheap talk hurts Japan

Article Abstract:

Nippon Denshin Denwa KK's (NTT) continuing high rates is threatening its economic recovery and prohibiting Japan's entry into the information age. The comment, attributed to US Trade Representative Richard Fisher, is based on the contry's failure to honor a promise in 1998 to bring NTT rates in line with the rates offered by other countries. NTT's interconnection rate of $3.34 per minute is nearly five times the $0.69 per minute charged by the US.

In Tokyo, fingers point at Ford for 'bad match'

Article Abstract:

Bridgestone executives in Japan have opined that the deaths and accidents caused by Firestone tires in the US may have been caused by the tires' bad match with Ford sport-utility vehicles. The recall of Firestone stores in the US may be extended to Japan although the scope of tire recall in the country is expected to be far smaller in Japan compared to the US. Tire analysts in Tokyo said that the problem-plagued Firestone tires may not be compatible with the Ford Explorer SUV.
