Prime Minister Chretien's 1995-96 budget implements needed cuts, but it does not go far enough to reduce Canada's deficit. Chretien, with his immense popularity, could have convinced the Canadian people to suffer through greater cuts, ensuring a brighter financial future for Canada.

The need for laws to limit spending: Canadians want to remove the power to tax, spend and borrow from politicians and put it into the hands of voters

Article Abstract:

A Dec 1994, poll of 2,638 Canadians found 86% are very concerned about government spending and public debt, and 64% favor some form of voter control over spending such as referendums. The sentiment was expressed equally by people from all income levels.

Canada must cut its budget and stop foreign borrowing or the value of the Canadian dollar will collapse. Canadians need to elect the right economic managers for the country's economy to be turned back in the right direction.
