Knowledge: who will buy?

Article Abstract:

Australian universities and schools are competing to attract foreign students from throughout Asia. Estimates put the number of foreign students in Australia at 150,000, 55,000 of whom are enrolled in university. Those numbers make education the fifth-largest service-export industry in Australia. Foreign students pour three billion dollars into the Australian economy in fees and living expenses. Educators are upset over the failure of the Australian International Education Foundation (AIEF) to form a coherent marketing policy for attracting more students.
