LA's deadly force

Article Abstract:

This article describes allegations of abuses and brutality by police in Los Angeles, California. Relevant details include the firing or suspension of 12 officers pending investigation of alleged abuses, several incidents in which suspects were injured or killed with little or no provocation, criticism of the widespread use of paramilitary units too quick to use deadly force, and proposals in Congress to require local police to keep records of complaints of brutality.

Skeleton, in the ointment

Article Abstract:

The discovery of a skeleton, the Kennewick man, in Washington state, US, has led to a number of court cases over who should be allowed to keep the bones. Native Americans have the right under the law to bury the bones of their people yet some scientists contend the skeleton is of European descent. The skelton is around 9300-9600 years old.
