Lawmaker Guilty Of Manslaughter; Says He'll Resign

Article Abstract:

Former South Dakota governor and current first year congressional representative Bill Janklow was convicted of second-degree manslaughter for the traffic accident that killed motorcyclist Randy Scott. After the verdict, Janklow announced his decision to resign from the House of Representatives, effective Jan. 20. Jurors considered the possibility that Janklow was affected in his driving by his diabetic condition and low blood-sugar, but felt he had to assume full responsibility for all of his behavior including his speeding and driving through a stop sign.
