Legislative funding battle

Article Abstract:

The controversy surrounding public broadcasting reached new heights when lawmakers proposed the abolition of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in 1991. Mainly led by conservative politicians, the move was spurred by the allegedly unabashed liberal bias of public broadcasting. Because of tremendous protest from the broadcasting sector, the move was modified into one asking fora freeze on fund allocation. This proposed bill was nevertheless overruled. On Aug 26, 1992, Pres George Bill finally signed the funding legislation.

Battle continues

Article Abstract:

Prominent personalities express their opinions about active euthanasia and assisted suicide. Rita L. Marker foresees more legislative battles about assisted suicide. Derek Humphry believes that euthanasia would be legislated in the near future, citing bills filed in a number of states. However, Julie Grimstad advises caution in legalizing euthanasia since it could lead to the legal killing of old and senile people. On the other hand, Thomas Murray would like to see more federal support for home care for the dying.

Battle in Kansas

Article Abstract:

Intelligent-design supporters in Kansas are attacking what they call methodological naturalism with scientist agreeing to pursue only natural explanations when they do science, regardless of their personal beliefs about religion and supernatural. Intelligent-design proponents consider methodological naturalism as their primary enemy, an especially dangerous idea as it is accepted not only by non-believers but also conservative Christians who practice science.
