Losing game: in an endless game of tag, for every drug found and banned, a newer, more effective one soon takes its place

Article Abstract:

The issue of drugs in sports surfaced again when two Chinese swimmers were sent home from the eighth World Swimming Championships. With the Sydney 2000 Olympics coming up, Australian researchers are trying to come up with new methods to detect newly found hormone-producing drugs that enhance performance. However, they contend that the faster they close down on detecting one drug, athletes move to the next one that is harder to detect.

Carr's electoral gamble

Article Abstract:

Bob Carr, New South Wales' Labor leader, faces poor re-election chances after serving only one term.
