Magnotta hopes to open winery store in Toronto

Article Abstract:

Magnotta Winery Corp. of Vaughan, Canada, wants to set up a new winery store in Toronto in 1998. Magnotta, the third-largest winery in the country, said it is awaiting the go-ahead from Ontario liquor regulators to complete the acquisition of an existing winery-store licence that would enable it to open a store in Toronto. Magnotta, which is known for its ice wines, also intends to sell two of its beers to through select Brewers Retail Inc. stores throughout Ontario. Sale of the company's products is done primarily through retail stores at five wineries in Ontario.

Vincor secures land for more vineyards

Article Abstract:

Vincor International Inc., the Niagara Falls, Ontario-based wine maker, has secured enough potential land for vineyards in British Columbia that would help it double the province's supply of high-quality grapes. The company has a lease on 500 acres in the Okanagan Valley, with a right of first refusal to lease another 1,500 acres. Vincor reported during its annual meeting that it posted a 17% increase in profits to C$2 million in the fiscal first quarter of 1998 from C$1.7 million a year earlier.

Cadillac says post-Eaton's era would be a 'positive'

Toronto, Canada-based Cadillac Fairview Corp, a real estate company, welcomes the exit of T Eaton Company Ltd's department stores from its malls, calling it a 'long-term positive.' Eaton, which sought court protection from creditors in Aug 1999 under the federal bankruptcy and insolvency laws, is an anchor tenant in 17 of Cadillac's 39 shopping centers. Cadillac says several retailers were interested in taking over Eaton's space.
