Primedia devotes Web site to auto enthusiasts, hot rodders

A World Wide Web site devoted to customized car aficionados has been launched by magazine publisher Primedia. The Web site, called GR8RIDE.com, will feature car articles and reviews, do-it-yourself projects, classified advertisements and club listings. Primedia has also disclosed plans of linking up with other sites, but analysts are doubtful if such moves wil create purchases within the site.

Many car shoppers' first stop is 'Consumer Reports': Magazine is top choice for buyers seeking advice

The magazine, Consumer Reports has influenced car shoppers to such an extent that some automakers send pre-production cars to the magazine's test engineers for suggested changes before the vehicles were presented in showrooms. The magazine that has added seven automotive publications throughout the year 2003 has become the top source that provides necessary information to car buyers.

Automaker plans used-car factory outlet

Article Abstract:

General Motors will test a used-car store concept in Houston, TX. The venture, tentatively called GM Driverside, will sell used vehicles coming off leases, which GM has traditionally sold to dealers at auctions. Company officials say not all the details are in, but say the store will focus on selling the vehicles through the Internet. Some Houston area dealers, meanwhile, are worried that the plan will leave them with leftovers.
