McDonald's donates toy-tester

Article Abstract:

McDonald's has donated a unique mannequin called 'McBaby' to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to help the latter evaluate suffocation hazards in children's products. The fast food giant also donated a simulated baby jaw, which can determine when a product is likely to come apart when bitten, thereby creating a choking hazard in children. The mannequin, which breathes like a 10-month-old baby, will be used by the CPSC to simulate the way an object could become lodged in children's throats.

Graphite makers accused of price fixing

Article Abstract:

Several leading manufacturers of graphite or carbon fiber used in sports equipment are being investigated by the Justice Dept for alleged price- fixing. Firms that have already been subpoenaed by the agency include Hexcel, Cytec, BP Amoco and two Japanese companies with US operations. The investigation was prompted by complaints that the carbon fiber shortage since the early 1990's to 1996 was intentionally created to jack up prices.
