Merged Nortel faces network market gorilla

Article Abstract:

Northern Telecom Ltd. is acquiring Bay Networks Inc., a US-based firm with strong technology and a robust clientele, for $9.1 billion in stock. Northern Telecom President and CEO John Roth does not believe that Bay is inferior to competitor and giant Cisco Systems Inc. Roth noted as an example that Bay's equipment runs of more electronic commerce networks than other competing gear.
