Microsoft courts buyers for Arthur toy

Article Abstract:

Microsoft is coming up with actions to better sell its interactive toys such as Arthur, which is based on the PBS television show, and its D.W. line of ActiMates. For one, the company is bringing down the prices of the interactive toys from $99.99 to $54.99, while maintaining the $99.99 tag price of its popular Barney ActiMate, which is targeted to children 2 to 5 years old. Being a new player in the industry, Microsoft admits that it is still learning in the toy business, which publisher Jim Silver said needs strong promotion to be profitable.

Pepsi's One for all; soft-drink giant hatches new diet line

Article Abstract:

Pepsi may finally achieve its longtime dream to outpace its rival Coca-Cola with its new one-calorie product. Called Pepsi One, it is predicted by some analysts that it will emerge as a $1 billion brand that gets a significant market share from Coca-Cola. Pepsi's one-calorie product, which is made with the newly approved artificial sweetener acesulfame potassium, is also expected by some to reignite the stagnant diet cola segment. According to Pepsi executives, the company is aiming Pepsi One as a direct assault to Coke's diet cola.

The cigar craze has faded as the industry reported flat sales in 1998 and projected to decline at least 10% in 1999, according to analysts and industry officials. The hardest hit by the cigar slump are the importers, with imports dropping 28% for the first half of 1999, according to the Cigar Association of America President Norman Sharp. According to some analysts, the cigar fad started to wane as a result of detailed revelations that a cigar figured prominently in Monica Lewinsky's sexual act with President Clinton.
