Iran has ignored the UN Security Council's August 31, 2006, deadline to halt nuclear-enrichment efforts while the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) determined if the process was aimed at producing weapons-grade material. Iran's apparent nuclear ambition might encourage Egypt and Saudi Arabia to follow suit, but Israel is feeling threatened by Iran's plans.

President Ahmadinejad's stance has created unpleasantness with the US and Britain governments.
