Minivan buyers just can't get enough of Honda Odyssey

Article Abstract:

Honda Motor Company Ltd has experienced success in the minivan category as consumers continue to buy its redesigned Odyssey. The company had added a second daily 8-hour shift at its Canadian plant in August 1999 in an attempt to meet consumer demands for the vehicle. The plant is currently making 120,000 vehicles a year, double the initial target of 60,000 units. However, the continued scarcity of the vehicle may push consumers to look at other brands such as Ford Windstar and Mazda's redesigned MPV.

Lawmakers fault tire tests, pressure

Article Abstract:

The US House of Representatives started devising safety legislation after questioning executives from Ford Motors and Firestone about missed signals that led to tire failures, which has already caused 101 deaths in US highways. The lawmakers have pinpointed two issues, a high failure rate of tires made at Firestone plant in Decatur, IL, and Ford's inability to determine a safe tire pressure for its Explorers. Firestone officials reiterated that they were unaware of serious trade-separation problems until Ford studied the tiremaker's data in Jul 2000.
