Article Abstract:

The move to downsize government and cut spending in the US and Canada has led to increased dependence on corporate largesse to fund education, social services and the arts. Privatizing health care, welfare and other traditional government services subjects communities to the whims of the marketplace.

A bold, spirited move

Article Abstract:

Edgar Bronfman, president of the Seagram Company Ltd, has purchased a 5.7% interest in Time Warner Inc in an attempt to diversify the company's assets. The firm plans to eventually acquire a 15% interest in Time Warner. Seagram previously purchased an interest in a fruit juice line.
