More flights show R-rated films

Article Abstract:

Airlines are now offering travelers R-rated films in their coach sections, which previously were shown in first and business classes. For instance, US Airways became the first domestic airline in May 2000, to provide an on-demand video system that includes R-rated titles. The system allows the showing of 'American Beauty,' which has an adult theme and nudity. While some films are shown without cuts, airlines are careful about which movies are offered. For example, films that deal with air crashes or disasters, or those with violent or sexual contents are not shown.

Technology clears way for takeoff of in-flight activities

The World Airline Entertainment Assn spokesperson Rob Brookler described the advanced in-flight entertainment systems as like having 400 computers at 30,000 ft. On-board servers of these entertainment systems are capable of storing as much as 110 hours of filmed entertainment, while Internet-style sites provide data on destinations.
