Hyal stock tanks on lost marketing deal

Mississauga, Ontario-based Hyal Pharmaceutical Corp. suffered a failure with its proposed marketing deal with Melville, NY-based Altana Inc. for its anti-cancer Solarase skin cream. Altana opted to cancel its talks with Hyal Pharmaceutical regarding a possible marketing deal for Solarase. The development, which came after Hyal Pharmaceutical earlier failed in its efforts to create a gel for treating pain from arthritis, resulted to a 36% decline in the prices of the company's stock on Oct. 8, 1998.

Xillix admits survival in jeopardy

Article Abstract:

Medical imaging firm Xillix Technologies has admitted that the patent suit it has filed against joint-venture partner Olympus Optical Co has endangered its survival. Xillix had discovered that some Olympus employees involved in the joint venture had covertly obtained and filed patents on behalf of Olympus in the US. The case will be filed in Japan but the interpretation of the joint venture agreement and remedies to be imposed will be according to British Columbia law.
