N.H.'s high court teeters on edge of a great fall

Article Abstract:

The New Hampshire Supreme Court is in the midst of a constitutional legal crisis which legal scholars predict will likely affect state courts nationwide. At issue are admissions by the court that justices offered opinions and advice on cases from which they had been excused for potential conflict of interest. One of New Hampshire's five high court justices has resigned and the state Legislature has begun steps toward impeachment against Chief Justice David Brock and possibly some other justices.

Canadian lobster dispute boiling over into violence

Article Abstract:

Violence erupted between native and non-native lobster fishermen in Burnt Church, New Brunswick after Canada's Supreme Court ruled that Indian fishermen could fish in any season. The Supreme Court based its ruling on a 1760 treaty between the British government and the native people who live along Canada's Atlantic coast. Non-native fishermen bitterly opposed the ruling because it would give native fishermen an unfair advantage.
