Nasdaq up 77% for year

Article Abstract:

The NASDAQ Composite Index rose by 127 points and closed at 3911 on Dec 21, 1999. This is the first time that NASDAQ breached the 3900 barrier and is its 56th new high for 1999. The feat has been surpassed only by the 82% gain attained by the Dow Jones Industrial Average in 1915. A reason for NASDAQ's rise is the decision of the Federal Reserve to maintain current interest rates. Investor interest in technology stocks, which have continued to appreciate in value, also fuelled the rise in NASDAQ's value.
