Nelson chances his arm

Brendan Nelson, who was associated with the Liberal Party for 20 years, delivered the Dame Pattie Menzies speech in expectation of John Howard's departure and to become deputy leader of the party under Peter Costello. He has discussed various issues right from taxation reform to aboriginal welfare to the virtues on nuclear energy, thus displaying his abilities for a leadership role.

Defense Minister Brendan Nelson is having a strained relationship with defense officials after the private Jake Kovco tragedy became a political issue. Jake Kovco was killed by a shot from his own handgun in Iraq, but Nelson's conflicting versions of how the young private soldier had died at his Baghdad headquarters has brought furious reactions from the public.

Article Abstract:

Alex Sanchez, senior advisor of Mark Latham, leader of the Australian Labor Party had warned him that his party would need to target the PAYE taxpayers in the suburbs to win back the party's base. However, Lathem either ignored or missed the warning because of which the party lost election in the suburbs in October 2004.
