Nortel builds metro research mega-lab

Brampton, Ont.-based Nortel Networks Corp. has constructed a new fiber optics research facility, which brings together four smaller research labs. Nortel, which is undergoing a major restructuring of its telecommunications operations, expects to save about $1 million annually through merging its research units.

Investors cheer Nortel forecast
Article Abstract:
Brampton, Ont.-based Nortel Networks Corp. has reported that it will have an operating loss of 16 cents per share for the fourth quarter. Nortel Networks, which expects to earn revenues of $3.4 billion in the fourth quarter ending Dec. 31, 2001, was expected to report higher operating losses for the quarter.
